What Kind of Dog Are You???

On Good Morning America this morning they did a segment on a test you could take to see which dog breed you most closely resemble. I decided to check out the website. Click on the title above, then on Game to see what kind of dog you are! Posted by Hello

I came out to be like a Basenji.

  • Some of it's traits:
The Basenji is a small, short-haired hunting dog from Africa, also known as the African Barkless Dog, and is one of the oldest "natural" breeds known to man. Ancient Egyptian carvings of Basenjis have been found on the pyramids. (I'm old and don't talk much.)
  • The Basenji is highly intelligent but independent. It can be stubborn and difficult to train, becoming bored quickly with repetitive-type training methods. (Hmmm. I seem to remember my mother and mother-in-law discussing how stubborn I am.)
  • Forcing a Basenji, or hitting it to make it do something it doesn't want to do, will likely cause it to growl or even snap at you. However, treats, praise, rewards, or sweet talk will almost always get a Basenji to cooperate. (Sounds good to me!)
  • The Basenji loves its human family but can be "stand-offish" with strangers. (Who, me??)
  • The Basenji is a natural hunting dog, and when it sees a bird or even a scrap of paper flying down the street, it will try to run off in pursuit. It is a strong and fast dog, and its intelligence, determination and highly developed hunting instincts can sometimes cause it problems. Once it sets its sight or senses on something, it is not easily discouraged or distracted. (Ok. So I'm either scattered or have tunnel vision!!)
  • The Basenji has not been long out of the jungles of Africa, and is not as domesticated as other breeds. Treat it with respect as you would a "wild" animal, but let it know where it stands in the "pecking order" of your household. (Which, of course, should be at the top!!)

Jeremy's Birthday Party

Posted by HelloJeremy had three friends over for his birthday party. As you can see they were all very calm and well mannered children! ;^) Actually, once we got past the pizza, cake and presents, things calmed down and a good time was had by all!

Joshua vs. The Rock

Posted by Hello Yesterday at school Joshua was hit in the eye with a rock. A girl threw a rock at his back, but, unfortunately, he turned around and it hit him in the eye. The school called us and we took him to a doc in a box as his doctor’s office feels the need to close down between 12:00 and 2:00 every day. (How stupid can you get!) Luckily, it was just a scratched cornea. The school nurse thought it was much worse than it was.

I took him back to the doctor today, and it was completely healed. The doctor was surprised it healed so fast.

The girl who threw the rock has been suspended for school for the remainder of the week. The principal assured us (and informed the girl’s family) that if we wanted, we could hold her family responsible for any medical costs we incur. That is all well and fine, but what ever happened to a good old-fashioned sincere apology?

Joshua's Birthday Party

Joshua had eight friends over for his birthday party. It was loud! For some reason, he never wants to have a party again and would prefer just to have a couple friends spend the night! :^) Posted by Hello

Snow!

We finally had a dusting of snow. It was gone by noon. Posted by Hello

Should I Worry????????????

Snowman a la Calvin and Hobbs (Click on the title for a good laugh.) Posted by Hello

The father of a friend introduced Joshua and Jeremy to Calvin and Hobbes a few years ago. It remains one of their favorite comics. Joshua made this 2-headed snowman in honor of Calvin and Hobbes.

Fort Clatsop

On the way home from Oregon, Joshua wanted to stop at Fort Clatsop where Lewis and Clark spent the winter before the trip back East. (Click on the title above to see the website.) For some reason Lewis and Clark didn't like it here...something about only having 6 sunny days out of the 100+ they passed in the Pacific Northwest!Posted by Hello

Lewis and Clark Salt Works

Posted by HelloThe Lewis and Clark explorers had run out of salt, so they set up the salt works. They spent about a month boiling seawater dry to obtain enough salt for the journey home. The salt works were just a couple of blocks from our beach house.

Sunset at the Beach

Posted by HelloWe spent the week after Christmas at a beach house in Seaside, Oregon. It was great -- the weather even cooperated for the most part! The beach was great and the area rich in history. Seaside is known as the end of the Lewis and Clark trail.

Jeremy and the Big Man in the Red Suit

Posted by HelloLooks like this will be the last annual trip to the mall for the privilege of paying through the nose for the kids to have the opportunity to give Santa their huge wish list. I have suspected for some time that Jeremy is unsure of his belief in Santa, but he finally fessed up today that he only believes at Christmas time.

Shhhh!

Don't tell anyone, but when I went to visit Sam in Little Rock, we visited the Trailer On a Stick--I mean the Clinton Presidential Library. From the distance it does look like a dilapidated single-wide, but I must admit it was quite impressive up close. Posted by Hello

Sam also took me to see Hot Springs. It was very interesting. The water was very hot to the touch. Posted by Hello

Lunar Eclipse

We had a lunar eclipse tonight. It was pretty cool and actually happened in the early evening so we didn’t have to stay up to all hours to see it. You can see the moon in the upper right-hand corner of the picture.Posted by Hello

An X-File

O.K. I was watching ER tonight and as soon as it was over I was going to let the dogs out. But then came the news teaser. A mummy found in a car in Seattle. Go figure. (I’m not kidding – click on the title above.) I knew I would have to watch the entire newscast before they would run the story. After all, they make every effort to hook the viewer and make him/her endure the entire program before reporting the teaser.

But, wait! It is the first story up. It is just too weird. A person out walking passed by a car and noticed a body slumped over the wheel. When the police came, they said “they knew something was suspicious because the victim was found wrapped from head to toe in some kind of cloth”. Do ya’ think????

Where are Mulder and Scully when you need them? I mean, really, doesn’t this sound like an X-File? We have a businessman with no known problems who suddenly disappears. Then, days later his wrapped body shows up in the driver’s seat of his car. What happened to him? Who is behind his disappearance? Why would someone do this? When was he mummified? How did he drive his car “wrapped from head to toe in some kind of cloth”? ;^) The local police are obviously baffled. They need assistance from the dynamic duo of all things weird!

The truth must be out there!

My Head Hurts

It was not a good day. It didn't start out so bad. I woke up early so I didn't have to rush around to get the boys ready for school. I even took the boys to school and went to the Y with a friend where we walked around the track for 45 minutes.

Then my throat started bugging me. Then I started to feel kind of queasy. And irritable, very irritable. I know, I know. It is SO hard to believe I would ever be irritable with anyone! ;^) So I took some DayQuil (great stuff!) and headed off to do some errands before work.

When I got to work, I helped Charlee, my co-teacher, set up the room. All of the sudden the church secretary (who is quitting after this week) came storming in and gave me her keys saying “I just had a big fight with your husband and I’m leaving! I’m not coming back!” She left the room, leaving Charlee and me in a stunned silence. I mean, really, what do you say?? She came back in a few seconds to give me her church credit card. I asked if she wanted to pray about it before she left, and she agreed. So she unburdened herself. It pretty much boils down to the fact that she and Mike are both nice people, but cannot work together. So here I am, between a rock and a hard place. No wonder my head hurts!

Cascade Eruptions During the Last 4,000 Years

This chart is kind of interesting. It shows which Cascade volcanoes have a history of blowing off steam in the past 4,000 years. Posted by Hello
